Moderation – Avoid extremes; forbear resending injuries so much as you think they deserve.

Kim perspective:  I work too hard and I eat too much sugar.  Find a little balance!

I am going to eat less sugar by eating an apple to stave off craving for anything sweet!  Will this work?  I have no idea!  What does this have to do with online marketing success or social media?  Health, less sugar are you kidding?  you all know better!  Here is me hitting a tough Ben Franklin Focus Subject!  Moderation in all things starting with sugar.  I hope I live!  Kim Power Stilson  — for great non sugar recipies try planetary streams Snack TV at www.planetarystreams.com

Ben Franklin’s Eighth Focus Subject:

Justice – Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.

Kim perspective:  Do the right thing!

We say in our church, to Choose the Right! (CTR) I love that, I teach my kid’s that!  Most of us do the right thing every day, every occasion!  But oddly, I was on a plane the other day, DELTA, and I was hungry.  I had just returned from launching my new set of social media and marketing guides in Europe.  It was an almost 5 hour flight and the loudspeaker (I say that because no human could say what they said) that there would be no dinner service, but we could buy dinner but that there was no card machine so we would have to have CASH.  Cash?  I just returned from Europe.  Would they take Euros?  No miss, they said (loved the miss part) we only take CASH!  American cash!  I laughed at all the comedians could do with that statement for a half second and then said, “But I have been traveling for 14 hours, I just barely made the connection and I am hungry!”  She just gave me that underpaid what can I do? Look and moved on to people who had CASH for earplugs!  Later as my tummy grumbled they came by with the cart and an entire pile or steaming pasta dishes were right there in the aisle in front of me.  Neither steward was there having had to run off and get change for CASH!  I wanted to reach in and grab one . . . my arm shot out,  I looked around, no one was looking, they were all eating their $8 dinners.  I stopped myself, hunger side shouting, “You can do it!  You can! You can!” from stealing a delta dinner.  Who would have thought it?  I ate yet another mint, fumed, said a tiny prayer of sorry I even thought of that and was still really bummed.  4 hours to go!  Didn’t Delta know I got airsick if I did not eat!  How was that Justice?

A few minutes later a lovely steward brought me a leftover dish of pasta,  she said, “ here you go miss!” I started to speak, she stopped me and smiled, that look of, I understand and here is how I am helping!  Justice!  I split the pasta, using  the lid as a plate with the hungry gal across the aisle from me who also did not have cash and was less vocal about it!  I devoured the food, thanked the steward with my happy eyes through the rest of the flight.  I was rewarded for what?  Not stealing?  Do I still owe Delta $8?  Did she steal?  I have to think of this.  What do you think?  This week hungry or not I will work on Justice!  Kim Power Stilson

Industry.  Doesn’t that mean working 80-120 hour work weeks?  Been there, do that!  What about using my time fore wisely.  What about doing the fun things as well?  So, I recently read The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss and will be reviewing it on my website as part of the 24 Challenge and the Power Strategies Monthy Marketing service – 24 Hours Style!  Anyway, read the book, loved it and hated myself!  Why?  I waste so much time.  There are so many ways to streamline and still be productive and successful and then with that extra time, take time to do the things I love.  Like water color.  I was recently in my family home town of Dunmore East, County Waterford, Ireland and watched as a woman artist water colored my favorite seaside cliffs in Dunmore.  Wow!  She said she was just starting to take a little time for it and found she had a knack!  I paid 40 Euro for the piece and she said to her husband, “I must be good I just sold my first painting, perhaps I should of sold it for more!”  How can we find undiscovered talents unless we take the time?  I spend my days doing marketing, helping people become successful online, I am the first woman to pioneer Internet talk radio marketing and yet . . . I may be an artist waiting to be discovered.  I may find joy in other areas if I could just take the time!  My focus this week thanks for Ben Franklin and the 13 Focus Subjects in the Monthly Marketing service on www.powerstrategies.TV is to waste no time . . . we will see how I do but I am definitely going to give water color a try!!!  Kim Power Stilson

he was obviously great at that!  Here I am on my quest to be just a little better and I am following the light Ben Franklin left behind.  This week my goal is to do what I say I am going to do . . . kids, work and all.  I thought I was pretty good but already, my kids are calling me saying, “You said you were only going to work til 3 pm and then go to the park and play tennis!”  It is ten to 3 I had better get going if I am going to do Ben Franklin proud.  See the outline below . . .  and get more information at www.powerstategies.TV.

Resolution – Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.

Kim perspective:  do what I say I am going to do every day all day.  If I tell my assistant that I will be back from a meeting by 3, I will be back or call her.  If I tell my kids I am going to take them swimming, I am going to take them swimming!

Kim’s sample blog:

How many times do I say, “sure I’ll call you right back!” and then get caught up and forget!  I will do this to my friend and she will say, “you never called me back!” and then I am stunned and think, doesn’t she know how busy I am?  EVERYONE is busy and our word has to mean something!  So, for one week I am going to work on my words, what do I say and do I do what I say!  This will be a tough one for me . . . so many professionals do not practice this.  How many times have you called for someone who says, “Sure I’ll get back to you!” How many times have you done that yourself?  My work this week on top of the mountains of PR and Marketing will be all about doing what I say I am going to do!

This week while working on The 24 Challenge Bake = Focus section from the Monthly Marketing Service — 24 hours style from www.powerstrategies.tv I am going to focus on my Bake perspective of the 13 Ways Ben Franklin Can Help You Succeed and Ben Franklin’s Subject #1.  Temperance – Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation. My perspective is Healthy and balanced eating! I would imagine my chances of success as an Internet marketing guru would be helped if I were healthy and vibrant and alive!  At $1 per marketing tip I can surely afford to take my own advice and the advice of Ben Franklin!  So,  here I go!

I would like to eat healthier and more regularly this week.  I spend hours at the computer and forget to eat til I am so starved I grab the quickest and closest thing . . . that usually happens when I am driving the kids somewhere in the afternoon and someone suggests Burger King.  So this week, I am going to not say NO I am just going to focus on the positive and eat:

  • Healthy condensed soups – fast to make and easy to sip while working.
  • Frozen and fresh fruit smoothies – see my recipes on www.appreciationsoup.blogspot.com.  You can make a blender full and pour cup full’s throughout the day at your home or business office – as long as you have a refrigerator.
  • I am going to forgo bread and sugar for Ezekiel bread and Agave sweetener!

It is day one and so far I have had a protein shake (chocolate, yum!) and a bowl of plain yogurt and strawberries and finally an avocado, salsa and cheese wrap!

In his book, How I raised myself from Failure to Success in Sales, Frank Bettger shares that he was born in the blizzard of 1888 and as a small boy he recounts watching the lamplighter light the street lights with a blazing torch leaving an illuminated path behind him.   He equated that analogy later in life while recovering from a career failure and looking for inspiration, to reading the book The Autobiography of Ben Franklin.  Of Ben Franklin, Bettger says, “Ben Franklin left a trail of lights behind him so other could see their way.”

How much do you really know about Ben Franklin?

Benjamin Franklin was not only one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was a leading writer, publisher, inventor, diplomat, scientist, and philosopher. He is well-known for his experiments with electricity and lightning, and for publishing “Poor Richard’s Almanac”.  He served as Postmaster General under the Continental Congress, and later became a prominent abolitionist. He is credited with inventing the lightning rod, the Franklin Stove, and bifocals.

A year after Benjamin Franklin’s death, his autobiography, entitled “Memoires De La Vie Privee,” was published in Paris in March of 1791. The first English translation, “The Private Life of the Late Benjamin Franklin, LL.D.” Originally Written By Himself, And Now Translated From The French version was published in London in 1793.

13 Subjects?

The story of the 13 Subjects goes like this: Ben Franklin chose 13 subjects which he felt were necessary for him to focus on to become more successful.  He gave each subject one week’s strict attention by focusing on perfecting that subject with action and attention, always carrying a 3” by 5” card with that subject information in his vest pocket .  The next week he would move on to the next subject and put the next index card in his pocket.  He did this for 13 weeks in a row and then went on to repeat the first through 13 again and did this 4 times in one year.  It was said that Ben Franklin with all his successes claimed this as one of his best practices for success.  And Frank Bettger, the author who shared this idea said, “Reject this (plan) and you reject one of the most practical ideas ever offered you.  I know what it did for me and I know it can do the same for anyone who will try it.  It’s not an easy way. There is no easy way.  But it is a sure way.”

Why 13 Subjects?  I have no idea. Perhaps to Ben Franklin it seemed an unlucky number of traits to turn into a successful number of traits! Our friend Frank Bettger said that if a man of little formal schooling like Ben Franklin could be showered by the highest honors for his successes that there must be something to this so he tried it and applied this to selling!

As for me, the idea of focusing on one thing each week to increase my success was way less overwhelming than jumping into that kind of list all at once.   I was excited this to make my life,  my business and myself better and surely with that kind of effort one week of focus at a time I would be more successful.  I suggest this for everyone who is overwhelmed and wants to try out a little advice from one of the world’s most successful individuals.    Kim Power Stilson, The 24 Challenge Monthly Marketing Service from 24 Hours to Zero Down Marketing and $1 per marketing tip!
